Is anyone else wondering when spring is going to start or is it just us? Dealing with the crisp winter air that makes our face dry and our hands even drier is getting pretty tiring but there’s one ingredient we know we can reach for time and time again when we need an extra boost for our lifeless skin- Vitamin E.

What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E oil on skin

Also known as tocopherol, Vitamin E is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory properties and stimulates the immune system, protecting the skin from adverse effects of oxidative stress. Did you get all that? In other words, it calms and sooths inflammation and rids the skin of free radicals, which contribute to photoaging. What’s photoaging you ask? Premature signs of aging, aka wrinkles, dark spots, dullness and sagging. In essence, the exact opposite of what you want if you’re looking to keep a youthful glow. Plus, because of Vitamin E’s chemical structure, it can penetrate much deeper into the skin, helping to repair any scarring or destroyed moisture barriers.

Is Vitamin E right for me?

That depends. In its purist form, Vitamin E is a heavy oil. If you suffer from dry skin, this is an ideal ingredient to include into your regimen. Because of its ability to reach deeper layers of skin, moisturizing from the inside out, you’ll see a softer, smoother and more hydrated complexion quickly. On the flip side, clients with acne-prone, oily or sensitive skin would be better off steering clear of it in it’s this form, but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch it completely. Even if you have oily or sensitive skin, you can still benefit from lightweight moisturizers and serums that featuring this skin-conditioning ingredient.

Which products should I use?

Serum

Glad you asked. Vitamin E is included in our exclusive antioxidant blend of Vitamins A, C, E and Green Tea Extract, which means it’s in TONS of our skin and beauty products, namely all of our mineral foundation formulas. However, depending on your skin type and skin concerns, you’ll experience Vitamin E in different ways within our skincare line.

Conditioning Hydration Cream and Phyto-Active Light Moisture: Both light to medium weight moisturizers, but loved by everyone. These best-selling formulas hydrate, strengthen and fortify the complexion with a rich blend of antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients.

Vita E Essential Cream and Restorative Cream: Two of our most popular richer creams, are a must have if your skin is dry during every season. Formulas packed with conditioning agents and botanical extracts deliver critical moisture to skin that needs it most.

Retinol+ Resurfacing Serum and Triple Action Serum: Our Level 3 smoothing and brightening serums pack a serious punch, which is why we added extra moisturizing agents to both formulas. The skin conditioning and anti-inflammatory properties of Vitamin E help sooth the aggressive nature of Retinol and Hydroquinone, which are both known to cause irritation.

Barrier Balm: This ultra-hydrating balm shields skin from water loss, and conditions and strengthens extra delicate areas. We use Barrier Balm on our lips, cuticles, and even as a cheekbone highlighter.

Oil Free SPF 40+ and Solar Shade SPF 50: Two daily sunscreens meant for oily and sensitive skin respectively. These two products prove Vitamin E can be beneficial for any skin type. Both formulas are gentle, soothing and won’t clog pores or cause irritation.

Anything else I should know?

As a matter of fact, yes. If you’re looking to get the most out of your Vitamin E, try using it alongside a product with Vitamin C! These two vitamins provide an excellent defense against photoaging and can help brighten and strengthen the complexion when used in the same routine. Try out one of our favorite product combinations below:

  • Oily Skin: Daily Power C and Oil Free SPF 40+
