Yves Sant Laurent Libre EDP

There’s never been any doubt that I love a bit of glitz and glamour. When I first saw this Yves Saint Laurent Libre Eau de Parfum on screen I wanted it. It wasn’t the images of the beautiful young woman in the ad (Dua Lipa the brands Global Fragrance Ambassador) or the fragrance (I didn’t find out what that was until I owned it). It was just how it looked – I coveted it.

I wrote it on my wish list – to use on one of the those days when a bit of on line shopping is the only thing that can distract me – and then shared the list at Christmas when my responses of “I don’t know”, or “anything will be lovely” wore thin. And that’s how it became mine – a generous Christmas gift.

The concept behind Libre – meaning free – embodies YSL’s key value of Freedom. Freedom to be yourself. Freedom of choice. Freedom to live everything to the full.
No compromise. Your own rules.

So what’s the fragrance like? Created by master perfumers Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaim, it’s a grand floral Eau de Parfum, with a YSL twist. Orange blossom flowers from Morocco, twisted with the boldness of lavender from France. Although lavender is traditionally used in male perfumery but YSL have given it a feminine side that results in a unique androgynous scent.

Top Notes: Mandarin, petit grain and lavandine France oils, blackcurrant accord

Heart Notes: Lavender oil, jasmine sambac absolute, jasmine grandiflorum India absolute, orange flower absolute.

Base Notes: Vanilla extract Madagascar, cedarwood oil, ambergris accord, muscs

I really love it, it’s warm and sensual and looks so good on the shelf. It’s available here from GBP56.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick 52 Rouge Rose.

Then it was in the post Christmas lull, that time when you feel you really shouldn’t spend any more, and knowing that I have more makeup than I can wear in a life time, that I fell upon this sparkling wonder that is a limited edition YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in shade 52 Rouge Rose. It’s my first YSL lipstick.

YSL Lipstick Rouge Rose

From the star shaped studs on the case to the moulded stars on the lipstick bullet it’s full-on sparkle and glam. The formula provides a stay-true colour and medium to full coverage. It’s a satin finish that’s designed to last for up to 6 hours. I can’t say that it lasts that long on me – but with a lipstick this good looking I never miss an opportunity to reapply to show it off. If you’re quick you may find the limited edition of this YSL staple here priced GBP29.

And that’s how I was lured in – does that happen to you from time to time?
